Now that all the hubbub surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday has started to fade, we can turn our focus from who we still need to buy gifts for to how we can better serve those in our communities and neighborhoods.
Every year, the people behind #GivingTuesday get into the spirit of giving, and they’re doing so by reaching out to all of us and asking for our help. Since 2012, companies from all over the world have been running a campaign to encourage generosity and love for those around us, and they’ve provided some ways that we can get involved and start giving.
Here are some ways you can spread goodness and service on #GivingTuesday.
Nonprofits always welcome money donations because that’s really what gets the ball moving and enables their organization to be put into action. Life can get extremely busy, so money may very well be the best way for you to participate on Giving Tuesday.
Before you write out your check, do a bit of research on charitable organizations so you can be sure that the majority of your donation will actually be going towards the cause. Charity Navigator is a great resource for selecting the charity you’d like to donate to. The website has a wealth of information so that you can be sure that the charity you choose is reputable and honest in their charitable dealings.
Giving doesn’t always have to involve your wallet or your bank account. There are a lot of ways you can spend your time involved in service, which can be just as valuable as donating funds.
You can find service opportunities near you by visiting the #GivingTuesday website, or you could check out other organizations such as JustServe and VolunteerMatch and sign up to give your time on Giving Tuesday.
If you’ve got a unique talent, share it! There are countless nonprofit organizations that are looking for a bit of help from anyone with a creative mind and a willing hand so their cause can take flight and start helping people.
Organizations like Taproot+ help nonprofits connect with talented people all across the country who are looking to volunteer their skills and give pro bono help, so if you’ve got an eye for design or you’ve got a knack for audio editing, visit the Taproot+ website and see how you can give.
As part of the worldwide campaign to create awareness of the movement, #GivingTuesday wants to enlist your face! With just a simple (un)selfie that you post to social media, you can be instrumental in making generosity go viral!
All you need to do is print off the #UNselfie sign and use it to share with your friends and encourage them to feel the spirit of giving. Jot down your name and the cause you’re supporting and get the word out by sharing your selfie on social media.
At Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, we’re all about service. For us, it’s a way of life! Whether it’s through providing made-from-scratch meals on a daily basis or rolling up our sleeves and helping out the community, we don’t let a day go by when we don’t have service at the forefront of our thoughts.
We’d like to invite you to provide whatever it is you can on Giving Tuesday. When we find ways to serve and to give, we all get a little taste of goodness.
