5 Patriotic Sides for Independence Day

Celebrating Independence Day is all about tradition. It’s about the tradition of fireworks, BBQs, parades and the good ol’ United States of America. We thought it would be fun to add another tradition to an already-storied day with sides that are the most red, white and blue things you’ll eat all day.

Red, White and Blue (Berry) Green Salad

If your sides aren’t sporting the colors of red, white and blue, you missed a great opportunity to show off your patriotism and love for your country in the most delicious way. This Red, White, and Blue (Berry) Green Salad definitely has all of the required colors for an Independence Day side, and it’ll do its job as a refreshing and satisfying salad.

Plump strawberries and juicy blueberries explode with flavors that may as well be bombs bursting in air, and pieces of feta cheese littered throughout the plate of the fresh leafy greens balance out the sweet and refreshing with a smooth texture and a cool taste.

Top the salad off with crushed walnuts and a homemade vinaigrette. The bright colors will have everyone wanting a bite, but it will be the flavor that’ll have them all coming back for seconds!

Independence Punch

Leaving Great Britain and founding the United States of America could be figuratively seen as the colonists rearing back and giving King George an Independence Punch, but that’s not quite what we’re talking about. We’re talking about a must-have drink the whole family can gulp down.

Angie from Big Bear’s Wife employs that good ol’ American creativity and mixes up one of the tastiest and most patriotic drinks you could find on this side of the Atlantic. With flavors like cranberry juice, blue Gatorade Frost and 7-Up, the Red Coats would be sad to know they missed out on such a refreshing summer drink.

Red, White, and Blue Double Berry Coconut Pops

You can’t spell “summer months” without the letters “H,” “O” and “T,” so if you’re looking for a way to keep cool during those sunny days, these popsicles are definitely the way to go.

Clad in our country’s colors, these Red, White, and Blue Double Berry Coconut Pops from An Edible Mosaic bring together fruity flavors in an ice-cold pop so you can get a sweet treat that’ll help cool you down in the most patriotic way.

From the red at the top to the blue on the bottom, you’ll get a hint of strawberries, coconut and blueberries with every lick this Independence Day.

Red, White and Blue Finger Jell-O

Keeping on theme with the cool-tasting foods, this recipe for Red, White and Blue Finger Jell-O will bring a refreshing flavor to a paper plate near you. Even if you’re on grill duty, this recipe is made to be a finger food, so you can enjoy these Jell-O cubes by the handful

The star-spangled banner will be well represented at your cookout by the layers of blue and red Jell-O and a white layer of sweetened condensed milk. Oh, and your kids will love it!

Patriotic Pie

Is there anything more American than pie? Sure, the famous metaphor compares the most American of things to apple pie, but we think it’s safe to say that pie itself has itself a place on the list of American food staples.

This Patriotic Pie from The Secret Life of a Chef’s Wife is really about as American as you can get. Spread across a banana creme pie are rows of raspberries and whipped cream, making up Old Glory’s red and white stripes. The blue section of the flag consists of sun-ripened blackberries, whose taste will more than make up for the fact that they’re not actually blue.

This pie is so patriotic that you’ll almost be able to taste the freedom in every fruit-filled bite.
