For many, the holidays are filled with the hustle and bustle of passing out gifts and decorating trees, houses and cookies. But, it’s also so much more.
This #GivingTuesday, you might be looking for a charity near and dear to your heart to give back.
GuideStar.org is a 501(c)3 public charity. It collects and organizes the information you want to know about each charity in one place in an easy-to-understand format. And, best of all, this service is free! GuideStar’s mission is to revolutionize philanthropy by providing information that advances transparency, enables users to make better decisions and encourages charitable giving. It’s easy, just create your account and start browsing.
Charity Navigator is the nation’s largest, and most utilized, online charity evaluator. Each charity is evaluated based on their financial health and their accountability & transparency to show users how the charity will use donor support, how it has sustained programs and services, and the level of commitment to good governance, best practices and willingness to share information. Their database includes over 8,000 charities across the nation and contains a list of some of the most well-known charities in the world, many you may have never heard of. And it’s super easy to browse.
BBB WISE GIVING ALLIANCE
The BBB Wise Giving Alliance is a branch of the Better Business Bureau. It helps donors make informed giving decisions by producing reports about national charities and assesses them against the Standards for Charity Accountability. Three times a year, the BBB Wise Giving Alliance publishes their magazine, the Wise Giving Guide, with a collection of the latest national charity assessments.
We hope these databases help you find a charity that becomes near and dear to your heart and spreads some goodness this holiday season. And, if you’re looking for volunteer opportunities near you, you can visit Volunteer Match – their goal is to bring good people and good causes together, and we love doing that, too!
